FOR MY FATHER ON HIS 93RD BIRTHDAY. (And for always)

On your 93^rd birthday I asked  

“When did we start calling you Pops?”

We used to call you Father,

Dearest Father on this day that would be your 95^th birthday 10/12/2017

{you left us six months ago}, we miss you terribly and we flounder a  bit because our “Pops” is no longer with us in the flesh.

We promise to get it together as you used to say to us,

“Come, come, come, get it together”.

And still I ask,

“When did we start calling him Pops,
we used to call him Father
suddenly we became grown and the Pops began,

My father, you are the one constant in my life
the unchanging
the faithful
the defender

You are old
very old according to the numbers
93,
your mind gets random sometimes and questions
the newness of the flush toilet,
“awesome”, was what you said.

if you go away, I will try to understand
in the meantime,
tell me another story,
